Plasterer and Painter Decorator in Tiptree and Across Essex

Hi, I'm Kieran. I run PPK, a plastering and decorating business based in Tiptree. I've been plastering for 25 years, and I do the decorating too, so you get one person from bare wall to final coat. No chasing two trades, and no arguing over whose fault a rough patch is.

I work on homes all over Essex, from a single ceiling in Maldon to a full house re-skim and repaint in Colchester. Every job gets a free quote, a start date I'll stick to, and a clean house at the end of each day.

Plastering and Decorating Services in Essex

01

Plastering and Re-skimming

Most of my work is skimming. That means putting a fresh finish coat over tired walls and ceilings, or over new plasterboard. I also do full replastering where old plaster has blown or cracked badly. Walls are left flat and smooth, ready for a mist coat and paint.

02

Painting and Decorating

I paint interiors and exteriors. That covers walls, ceilings, woodwork, doors and skirting, plus front walls and render. Most of the job is preparation: filling, sanding and getting new plaster sealed properly so the paint doesn't peel later. I'm also happy to help you choose colours and the right paint for the room.

03

Dry Lining and Plasterboarding

If a wall is too uneven to skim, or a room needs new stud walls, I'll board it out with plasterboard and finish it. I do this a lot in loft conversions, garage conversions and older properties where the walls have moved over the years.

04

Coving

Coving hides the join between wall and ceiling and gives a room a finished look. I fit plain and decorative styles in plaster or polyurethane, with the corners cut cleanly. I can also replace damaged sections in older homes.

05

Feature Wall Panelling

Wall panelling is popular in hallways, bedrooms and dining rooms. I fit shaker-style, box and square-grid panelling and slat wood cladding. Everything is measured to suit your room, then filled, caulked and painted so it looks like part of the house.

06

Extension and Renovation Finishing

Builders often bring me in at the end of an extension, loft conversion or new build. I plaster around skylights and reveals and do the final decoration. If you're managing a renovation yourself, I can take care of everything from boarding to the last coat of paint.

About Kieran

About Kieran: A Local Plasterer Who Decorates Too

I started PPK because customers kept asking whether I knew a good decorator to follow on after the plastering. Now I just do both. You get the same standard all the way through, and the job doesn't stall while you wait for the next trade.

I'm based in Tiptree, so most of my work is in north and central Essex. I'm in and out of Colchester, Witham, Maldon and Chelmsford every week. I turn up when I say I will. I lay floor protection before starting, and I clear up properly at the end of each day, because I know you've still got to live in the house.

Why homeowners choose PPK

  • One trade for plastering and decorating
  • Free, no-obligation quotes
  • Start dates and timings you can plan around
  • Floors and furniture protected, rooms left tidy
  • Small jobs welcome. One wall is fine.

Plastering and Decorating FAQs

How long does new plaster take to dry before painting?

A skim coat usually needs between a few days and a week, depending on the weather and how well the room is ventilated. Thicker backing plaster can take a few weeks. You'll know it's ready when it has turned from dark pink to an even light pink with no darker patches. It then needs a mist coat before the top coats.

Do you take on small jobs?

Yes. A single ceiling, one patched wall or a bit of coving is no problem.

Can you plaster over Artex?

Usually, yes. Artex applied before 2000 can contain asbestos, though, so I'll ask for it to be tested first if there's any doubt. If it's clear and the surface is sound and properly prepared, I can skim over it.

Do I need to empty the room?

It helps to clear small items. I can move larger furniture to the middle of the room and cover it.

How much does plastering cost in Essex?

It depends on the size of the room, the condition of the walls and whether it needs a skim or a full replaster. I give fixed prices after a visit, so you won't get a surprise at the end.

Which areas do you cover?

I'm based in Tiptree and work throughout Essex, including Colchester, Chelmsford, Maldon, Witham, Braintree, Clacton, Brentwood and Basildon.
